Confederation for Lay Psychoanalysis
It is with great joy and hope in your participation that we are informing you about the birth of the INTERNATIONAL CONFEDERATION FOR LAY PSYCHOANALYSIS (CONFEDERAZIONE INTERNAZIONALE PER LA PSICOANALISI LAICA), an association that comes into being with the primary objective of bringing together schools and associations of psychoanalytic formation of various orientations, all inspired and sharing in common a specific lay identity characteristic of the psicoanalytic profession.
Based on Sigmund Freud's fundamental reflections, particularly in his renowned work of 1926 “The Question of Lay Analysis” (without a medical degree or, in current times, without a degree in psychology), in consideration of what has emerged in the ongoing debate in the professional and cultural arenas in relation to the difference between psycotherapy and the practice of psychoanalysis, a distinction sought from this point on by the legislator (who for this exact reason did not include or voluntarily mention Psychoanalysis in the law instituting and regulating the profession of the psychologist-psychotherapist) and subsequently confirmed over the course of several Court rulings, we have established the INTERNATIONAL CONFEDERATION FOR LAY PSYCHOANALYSIS, an entitiy of international standing, which intends to represent a center par excellence for confrontation and coordination among the various associations and schools of formation existing within the sphere of Psychoanalysis; a confrontation limited not only to the contents that characterize the various schools and orientations, with their unique visions and perspectives and differences in epistemological motives and motivations, naturally diverse, which distinguish the practices of these disciplines and professions and their differences, originating in the theory-practice of their distinct formative paths and autonomous developments, but rather encompassing the professional status of the analyst (or psychoanalyst) viewed from cultural, legal, and ethical perspectives and the practice of psychoanalysis itself, considered in relation to the various State rulings.
Among the fundamental objectives there is, besides other things, the need to preserve the figure of the analyst and the professional status of psychoanalysis as natural lay realities, according to the preference of Freud, the founder of the discipline, and later of Jung and others.
At this point, after many years of confrontation and contributions made in scattered manner, we found it imperative to propose a leveled coordination, extending beyond the current national borders that no longer suffice (for the debate and confrontation in question), which performs the dual function of culturally, politically, and institutionally promoting the founding and fundamental idea of lay psychoanalysis.
The purpose of the creation of the Confederation is to establish a point of reference for all associations and schools, Italian and international, sharing the common vision of an autonomous culture and formation, in the manner of natural Psychoanalytic laity.
In anticipation and fundamental to joining is the recognition of the sharp distinction between psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, each aiming toward two different outcomes (1).
The entity we have created immediately assumes the organizational characteristics of a Confederation, inspired by the idea of reciprocal agreement (precisely con-federate, con-federal) and referring to, as an operative model, the Swiss organization, which we view as a concrete example par excellence of a confederate organizational structure.
On this basis, every year, each one of the associations and schools of formation participating in the Confederation, and beginning with the proposing school, the Scuola di Filosofia del Se' e Analisi del Profondo di Firenze - Scuola Internazionale per la Psicoanalisi Laica, will take turns in assuming the presidency of this entity (please see the organizational structure of the Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation) with the burdens (i.e. the management of any common resources and related costs of management of the confederation during such period of administration) and related responsibilities, promptly and honestly corresponding with all other members and organizing at one's location at least one yearly meeting for all members.
Based on all of the above, we are asking you to join us in order to strengthen the position and petitions of lay psychoanalysis, by getting involved with the conviction and enthusiasm of an active promoter who promulgates those perspectives ensuring that the principles and dynamics of our discipline will play an increasingly important role in the arena of culture, the work force, private, social, affective, and spiritual life, and humanistic, psychological, and philosophical formation, a contribution, according to our view, becoming increasingly fundamental for the planning and creation of didactic programs and the cultural organization of all types of schools and universities, business companies and professional activities, and public and administrative offices.
THE BOARD AND ORGANIZATION
The fundamental bodies of the board are the Council of confederate members and the Presidency.
The Presidency operates according to an annual turnover: Each presidential term lasts a maximum of one year and provides for one's own secretarial expenses during the one-year period of operation; fees are therefore not expected to be paid by individual members of the confederation, unless subsequent changes are made by the assembly.
Any actions not sanctioned with unanimity by all members of the Confederation in the first or second petition, or by at least two-thirds of the members in the election following the third summoning of the assembly on the same subject, will not be considered valid and therefore are to be deemed unnulled.
For a provision to become a provision of the INTERNATIONAL CONFEDERATION FOR LAY PSYCHOANALYSIS, it must be declared, explicitly, in written form with the consent of all members or, following the third reading, by at least two-thirds of the members of the association.
Thus each individual association with a proposal to suggest, which may be of concern to the common interest of the Confederation, is mandated to propose it to all the others for its approval, without which the action has no binding value for the Confederation and does not obligate it in any way. Unilateral actions, of any kind whatsoever, on the part on a single association of the Confederation, intended to bind or obligate it, become virtually impossible, the penalty being immediate and irrevocable exclusion from the Confederation of the same single association, and the action mentioned above would be immediately annulled, deprived of any legal effect and considered as not belonging in any way to the Confederation.
The on-line forum and the contacts, by phone, postage or in person, are coodinated annually by the active ruling presidency.
The active presidency is held to the obligation of organizing at least one annual conference for members of the Confederation.
The INTERNATIONAL CONFEDERATION FOR LAY PSYCHOANALYSIS was founded in Florence on September 28, 2009.
